I know I’m a geek when…
I’m noticing lately that I’m becoming … well, increasingly geeky. People know me as a geek, but I think I might be turning into even more of a geek. Here’s some of the things I’ve noticed just in the last few minutes. You know you’re a geek when:
- You’re doing calculus homework
- You just did your calculus homework while listening to “netcasts you love, from people you trust”, ie one of the podcasts from TWiT
- You listened to those podcasts on a Windows Mobile-based PDA
- You’re certainly not using the included Windows Media Player on your PDA, you’re using TCPMP because it’s better, but most importantly, it’s open-source.
- Now playing in your current playlist is Devo – Big Mess
- You instantly know which Weird Al Yankovic song parodied the style of the song.
- The laptop is next to you on sleep mode
- On that laptop, you have an x86 emulator like Virtual PC open
- Inside Virtual PC you have some variant of Windows Server running
- Last night you used the laptop to buy clothes online
- …. from ThinkGeek.
- You just physically threatened the PDA you’re using to listen to music by Devo because of the inferiority of Windows Mobile.
- You own a blog
- You’re blogging right now
- … about being a geek.
I think that just about covers it?

This definition from urban dictionary seem to fit you very well:
A Geek Should NEVER be Confused With a Nerd. Geeks are different in that they do possess social skills, albeit Bizarre ones. Geeks like Star Trek, etc, but also have friends usually, among the mosher/goth community, if not other geeks. A geek is usually physically weak, but his/her goth/mosher friends will often stand up for him/her, as the geek usually puts his friends first. They have a pathological hatred of Townies, Preps}, and [Chavs, and tend to have good taste in music i.e. Punk. They do not get on With Nerds, but will unite with them to pick on dorks, unfortuneately.
