Windows/386 2.x Promotional Video
My trusty friend Google linked me to this blog post containing a short film that Microsoft handed around to retailers for the upcoming Windows/386 release in the late eighties. Windows/386 was the version of Windows 2.0 that was optimised for computers with the Intel 386 processor. Yes, these were the days when you had seperate versions for each processor. Then again, I guess the whole 32-bit/64-bit thing is happening now with Vista, but anyway. I thought I’d post this video here because it’s .. interesting.
It starts off with a stereotypical businesswoman called Linda being assigned a task: to write a document by the end of the day that stops a company called Trans Global International Freight (oh how comical, T.G.I.F
) from being taken over by a guy called T. Bone Perkins who sounds like an evil businessman. Of course, she uses her computer with Windows/386 to write the document, showing off her multitasking between Microsoft Word, Microsoft Chart, a terminal program, etc.
However, at the 7 minute mark, the video all of a sudden changes into a disturbing, robotic rap by Linda. It sounds like trance mixed with bad rap. I’m not sure if I can explain it, so I’ll let you view it for yourself:

… Erm, right. I’d love to make a parody of this with Vista instead of Windows/386, but I don’t think I’ll have the time.
