Back from Adelaide, with lots to blog
I came back from Adelaide a little early … only ended up staying a night. Reasons include lack of accomodation, and the fact that most of the shops in Adelaide are shut for all of the morning. But, it was good fun.
One thing you must do while in Adelaide or any big capital city: go to IKEA, the furniture place. It’s a very different shopping experience. Not only is the store disorientingly huge, it also has a very different layout to most conventional shops. It’s a linear layout, so you have to walk through a certain way and see every display. You can’t just walk over to the Bedding department like you could in some other store, you’ve got to go past all the furniture for the kitchen and lounge as well. This makes it very difficult to leave without spending money. It’s helped by the fact that everything is dirt cheap, because you have to assemble it yourself. Therefore they save on shipping, so you can end up with a new bed for only $70. Another interesting thing, keeping with the whole Swedish theme (IKEA is from Swedish), they have a restaurant in the middle of the store, which serves a variety of dishes including Swedish Meatballs. Considering you can easily spend hours in an IKEA store, it’s quite a convenience. Anyway, I’ll definitely be going back there to get some more furniture.
Also, last night at 12am, Microsoft released Windows Vista. I’m not quite sure which of the local computer places had midnight launches, but there were at least copies in the Dick Smith Electronics store I looked in today. I’ll blog a bit about Vista a little later in the day. I’ve got to choose my words carefully.
Tomorrow, I start school again. Eek. Of course I’m not looking forward to it, as I absolutely hate VCE. I’m not even doing any computer subjects this year, so I don’t know how I’m going to survive. There’s a reason for this, the two computer subjects both suck. Information Processing and Management is a total bludge, and I’ve already done Information Systems (this year now known as Software Development, pheh, though you don’t actually do any standardised Software Development. You do all theory bullshit cause they can’t standardise the development language. Why can’t they just agree to use cross-platform languages such as C++, PHP, or Java all across the state and teach them?). Why can’t the VCE provide some computer subjects that have meaning? Perhaps a digital media class? Podcasting class? Web application development with PHP, MySQL and Apache? Detailed classes about computer hardware and architecture? Instead of classes that give you 99% fluff.
Anyway, enough of my random ramblings for now, I’ve got things to do, Xboxes to play with, school to prepare for, music to listen to, torrents to download, and food to gorge on.

I’m not doing any computer subjects either; I did Information Systems in Year 11… My subjects are Specialist Maths, Maths Methods, Physics, Chemistry and English (I guess you’re doing similar ones?

I absolutely hate furniture shopping, it’s the most boring thing ever

I’m not sure if my store of choice (MSY – http://www.msy.com.au/) sells Vista yet or not. My friend has already bought a copy of the Ultimate edition. I personally think it’s a waste of money (I’m happy with my Ubuntu Linux + Beryl
