Blogging from Microsoft: Day 10 - That’s All Folks
All good things must come to an end. Yesterday it was my Microsoft work placement. Meh.
The day started out pretty normally, Matt and I took some quick photos of some things and went back to preparing for our presentation on Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals. By 3PM we were in the big Microsoft theatre, and had started our demo to a whole two people. It went quite smoothly, compared to how it could have went. Even the parts of the demo which we hadn’t even prepared went well. Cool. Our computer only bluescreened once: heh, we had a bluescreen as the wallpaper on our demo laptop, and had our taskbar and icons hidden. Mwahaha.
As it was our last day, we also accumulated a bit more freeeee stuff! In the last hour of us being there Dave hunted around looking for stuff to give us, and came back with copies of Windows Vista and Office 2007 Beta 2, demos of Visual Studio Team Services, a book on writing secure code, and an MSDN shirt. Pretty cool, even though the shirt is about 10 sizes too big for me. Bleh, it will fit me one day.
Matt and I spent the last hour swapping photos and filling out our evaluation sheets. VITTA requires us to evaluate our experience. Even though there were a few times during the placement where things were slow and uninteresting, and we never got to check out any of Microsoft’s next-generation stuff (Windows Vista, .NET 3.0) I still put down on the form that it was a good experience, because it was. Getting a feel for Microsoft’s internal workings is a very interesting experience. It’s a good environment to work in. I’d love to work there once I’ve wasted the best years of my life on pointlessly-irrelevant schooling.
Anyway, that’s all for now, I’m going to sleep and then I’ll upload some more photos.
