Blogging from Microsoft: Day 4 – Some progress
Hello there again, I’m back with news from another day of working at Microsoft!
Well, actually, there isn’t really much news as not terribly much happened today. Come to think of it, a lot happened. I managed to fix up a piece of code that was really screwing me … it seemed like the custom SiteMapProvider object code used to fill the ASP.NET Menu control with Commerce Server data just wouldn’t work with a TreeView, which suited the end site more than the Menu control, so I had to write my own code to iterate through the items and add them, and dynamically generate the links and styles to make it look like the client’s current site. Still got a few bugs to fix, but its mostly done. Now all that really needs to be done are the category and product detail pages, and our little demo eCommerce site is good to go
Unfortunately, development is slow because I’m doing development inside a VirtualPC image running on a Pentium M 1.6GHz with a gig of RAM … the whole development process is self-contained inside the image (running Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2005, Commerce Server, BizTalk, Visual Studio and lots more). Builds in Visual Studio take about two to three minutes, which is frustrating to say the least. I could have done the development on my notebook (Core Duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM .. etc etc, I’ve blogged about my PortaBeast before..) but I decided against it as it is easier to connect to the network on the Microsoft-supplied notebook.
Anyway, tomorrow shall be good. I’m not exactly sure why, probably because it’s Friday and exciting things generally happen on a Friday, but meh.
