New LCD Monitor
A few months ago I noticed my BenQ FP-737S-D 17″ LCD Monitor started to develop a strange clump of dead pixels, which grew over time to the point where it was a real annoyance, (It was about, hmm, 24 pixels high by about 120 pixels wide, and oddly-shaped) so I decided to take it back to my local BenQ Service Agent to get a warranty claim on it. I was without my monitor for about three weeks, which was painful as I had to Remote Desktop into my main machine from an excruciatingly-slow laptop for the whole time. However, today I received notification that my new monitor had arrived, so I went and picked it up. BenQ had replaced it with a newer model, a FP71G-S. ![]()
Things I have noticed about my new BenQ FP71G-S:
- It has an 8ms refresh rate, which is probably not excellent compared to today’s 4ms/3ms ones, but compared to 16ms that the previous one was, it’s excellent.
- It’s a lot brighter
- It looks slightly better, it isn’t as square as my FP737S-D
- All the ports are in different places, which is good cause the DVI port doesn’t stick out of nowhere like on the FP737S-D, but bad cause the VGA port seems to be a little tight
Anyway, I kinda like it a bit more than my old LCD, which is good. Now I’m just waiting for another big patch of dead pixels to appear out of nowhere

BTW: If I get time I might upload some pics of it with my computer, which I’ll tell you about in more detail in another blog post, When I Can Be Stuffedâ„¢ ![]()
